In 1903, Underwriters Laboratories published its first safety standard. It covered tin-clad fire doors: wood cores wrapped in sheet tin, hung in the mills and warehouses of the industrial Northeast to stop a fire at the wall. A century of fire testing grew from those doors.

Our story

Why we started Tinclad

Facility directors told us the same thing again and again. We built Tinclad to fix it.

Three vendors

The founder

One crew

Three separate vendor binders on a facility manager's desk

Three vendors, three reports

Most buildings in our region hire one company for doors, another for dampers and a third for firestop. Most of those companies are based a thousand miles away.

Greg Van Horn, founder of Tinclad

Greg Van Horn, Founder

Greg spent years in Philadelphia-area hospital operating rooms as a medical device rep, then built and ran a roofing company. He lives in Ambler. He started Tinclad because he saw how many fire barriers in good buildings were failing quietly, and how hard it was for facility teams to get one straight answer.

Two Tinclad technicians arriving with a ladder and parts case

One local crew

Facility directors told us the reports were hard to read, the repairs came months later, and nobody local picked up the phone. Tinclad does doors, dampers and firestop on one schedule, with one report and a local number that answers.

Our values

What we believe

Four rules for every building we work in.

Every opening counts

We inspect all of them, not a sample.

Fix it while we are there

A finding fixed today never reaches a surveyor.

Gloved hand placing a Tinclad tag on a fire door frame

Show the work

Every door gets a tag, a photo and a line in your report.

Be straight

Prices in writing, times we can keep, and no claims we cannot back up.
