Fire barrier inspection for schools and universities

Schools are full of fire doors that get propped, kicked and slammed thousands of times a year. We inspect and fix them over breaks, so classes never notice.

Who checks your buildings

  • The local fire marshal, enforcing the fire code your town adopts

  • Your insurer's or risk pool's loss-control inspector

  • On many campuses, an in-house fire marshal or environmental health and safety office

Most of them start with the same standard: NFPA 80's annual inspection and test of every fire door. Our NFPA 80 fire door inspection guide covers what that test includes.

What gets flagged most

  • Doors wedged open, or fitted with kick-down stops

  • Closers and latches worn out by heavy traffic

  • Labels painted over during summer refreshes

  • Hold-open magnets that do not release

  • New holes in rated walls after IT and renovation work

What we do

  • Annual fire door inspection across every building

  • Repairs before students return

  • Damper testing in classroom and dorm buildings

  • Firestop surveys after summer IT and renovation work

Built for school calendars and budgets

We schedule winter break, spring break and summer. We price per building so you can split the work across fiscal years.

How we work around students

Most work happens when buildings are empty. When classes are in session, we work in halls and stairs that are closed off, and we never leave a stair or corridor door unlatched. Your facilities staff get a daily list of where we are.

What your report gives you

Each building gets a one-page summary with pass rate, failures by type and repair cost, then one line per door and damper with location, result and photo. Repairs are priced and sorted by risk, so you can put the urgent fixes in this year's budget and plan the rest. Every door and damper is marked on your drawings, and your team can search any opening by ID in the client portal and see its history year over year. See a sample inspection report.

Services that matter most

Our Survey-Ready Program puts every building on one yearly schedule, with the Portfolio level for districts and campuses with three or more sites. Send a building list to get a school fire door inspection quote.
